Fire Service Goes Social

Lincolnshire Fire and RescueLincolnshire Fire and Rescue is now using social networking to help make residents safer.

The service is joining Twitter and Facebook as a way of getting in touch with local people and spreading important safety advice.

Anyone with access to the internet will be able to use the social networking sites to follow Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and learn more about what it does.

People will be able to share their views on the work of the service, find out how to avoid fires, get handy reminders on when to test their smoke alarms, and keep up to date on the latest news and events.

It's hoped that the sites will help the service reach out to even more people and also encourage some of them to become on-call firefighters. The latest recruitment and fire station open days will be among the events being promoted.

Nick Borrill, Assistant Chief Fire Officer said "One of our most important roles is to communicate with people. We do a lot of work to get out and meet locals but we can't be everywhere at once. Our new social networking accounts will make it possible for us to reach more people and give them advice that could save lives.

"But this is about much more than explaining fire safety. We hope people will use Twitter and Facebook to get to know us and understand the personality behind the uniforms. And we hope to get to know them by listening to their experiences, feedback, interests and concerns."
